Elite Dental Partners' Management Philosophy

Elite Dental Partners' management team is led by experienced dental professionals including dentists. The senior leadership team had over 100 years of collective dental experience prior to joining Elite Dental Partners. This prior experience includes owning, affiliating with, supporting, and working with numerous dental practices. Elite Dental Partners' management philosophy centers around establishing true collaborative relationships with all affiliated dental practices, dentists, and team members in order to provide industry leading non-clinical support services. Below is a select list of senior leadership team members.

Gaurav Bhattacharyya

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Bhattacharyya has over 15 years of experience in advisory and general management roles. He recently was the Division Vice President at DaVita, where he managed a ~$350M dialysis business across 100+ sites and also helped turn around a subsidiary outpatient ambulatory surgery business. Prior to that, he was a Principal at Bain & Company where he led projects for senior clients on strategy, M&A, performance improvement and commercial operations in healthcare and other industries. Mr. Bhattacharyya holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA in Economics from Duke University.

Mike S. McDermott

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. McDermott has over 15 years of accounting and finance experience. His prior experience includes Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance at a number of mid-sized companies in the Midwest. Mr. McDermott also spent 6 years in public accounting at Grant Thornton leading audits for companies with yearly revenues ranging from $20 million to $1 billion. Mr. McDermott is a CPA and graduated from University of Illinois.

Dave Klink

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Klink has over 30 years’ healthcare experience working within IT, customer service, call centers, marketing and operations. His prior experience includes President/COO of a Behavioral Health company and senior level operations positions within varying healthcare companies on the east coast. Mr. Klink has been instrumental in developing and managing high performance operational teams in fast growing organizations. Mr. Klink holds a BS in Management Information Systems from Bowling Green State University.

Tracy L. Jacobson

Chief Legal Officer

Ms. Jacobson has over 13 years’ experience working with companies on acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and reorganizations. She has also worked counseling companies of all sizes on healthcare compliance issues and has experience in both the public and private sector. Ms. Jacobson received her B.A. magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis and received her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis as well.

Brad D. Starkweather

Chief Development Officer

Mr. Starkweather has over 15 years of experience investing in middle market companies and partnering with small business owners. He has worked at four different private equity investment firms where he purchased, grew, and sold a variety of different businesses.  Prior to that he worked at a global investment bank where he advised clients on a wide array of M&A transactions.  Mr. Starkweather holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Economics and Engineering Science from Vanderbilt University.

Carol Czaplicki

SVP, Marketing

Mrs. Czaplicki has over 25 years’ experience working within marketing, advertising, brand management, communications, sponsorship and new store openings. Her prior experience includes VP of Marketing for a physical therapy company in which she supported new store, same store and acquisition growth from 25 offices to over 400 offices in a 14 year timeframe.  Mrs. Czaplicki also has worked in sports marketing for teams and a league office. Mrs. Czaplicki holds a BA from Butler University in Public and Corporate Communications.

Jack T. Lowey

Director of Business Development

Mr. Lowey has almost 10 years of investment banking, corporate development and private equity experience. His prior experience includes corporate development and M&A roles at multiple mid-sized companies in the Midwest.  Prior to that he worked at a global investment bank where he advised clients on a wide array of M&A transactions.  Mr. Lowey holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he graduated with honors, and a BA in Economics and Japanese Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kevin J. Pukala

Director of Business Development

Mr. Pukala has over 5 years of consulting and investing experience.  Most recently he held investing positions at multiple private equity and investment firms that managed committed capital funds and family office capital investing across multiple industries.  Prior to that he worked as a strategy consultant for Accenture.  Mr. Pukala holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS from Northwestern University.

Merrick J. Axel

Board of Directors / Partner, Cressey & Company

Merrick J. Axel is a Partner responsible for acquisitions, divestitures and oversight of portfolio companies. Merrick joined Cressey & Company in 2005. Merrick previously worked with Harvest Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, and J. W. Childs Associates, a Boston-based private equity firm. He began his career in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at Morgan Stanley. Merrick earned a BA in Economics and Political Science from Duke University and an MBA from The Harvard Business School. Merrick is a member of the 2013 class of the Nashville Health Care Council Fellows program.

Paul J. Diaz

Board of Directors / Partner, Cressey & Company

Paul J. Diaz is a Partner with Cressey & Company. Prior to joining the Cressey & Company team, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Kindred Healthcare, Inc., one of the largest providers of health care services in the United States. Paul currently serves on the Board of Directors of DaVita and the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University Law Center. He previously served on the Boards of PharMerica Corporation, the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and the Board of Trustees of the Suburban Hospital Healthcare System (today part of Johns Hopkins). Paul earned a bachelor’s in finance and accounting from American University’s Kogod School of Business and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

Steven Dildine

Board of Directors / Principal, Cressey & Company

Steven Dildine is a Principal responsible for evaluating and executing investment opportunities as well as monitoring portfolio companies. Steve joined Cressey & Company in 2013 after completing his MBA. Previously, Steve worked as an associate at the New York based private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe. He started his career as an analyst at UBS Investment Bank in the Leverage Finance, Financials Sponsors, and Restructuring Group. Steve earned an MBA, with honors, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a degree in economics and finance from Princeton University.

Claire M Gulmi

Board of Directors

Claire Gulmi has more than 30 years of experience in corporate finance and healthcare. She joined AmSurg Corp in 1994 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 2016 AmSurg merged with Envision Healthcare and Claire served as the Executive Vice President and CFO of Envision, a $7 billion public company until her retirement in October 2017. Claire has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, public debt and equity financings and investor relations. She has served on 7 Board of Directors and in 2017, joined the board of Elite Dental Partners and serves as chair of the Audit Committee. Claire received her bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and finance from Belmont University.

Dr. Jeff Moos

Board of Directors

Dr. Jeff Moos is a general dentist who spent his dental career from 1983-2015 with Midwest Dental. Jeff was CEO of Midwest Dental from 2005-2014 and led the rapid growth of Midwest from 33 to 150 locations and through 4 very successful PE transactions. He believes a company’s strengths lie in the quality of its people, good leadership and excellent teamwork. He believes the importance given to maintaining company culture and philosophy through rapid growth is key to company success and superior outcomes.

Dr. Scott B. Kalniz

Board of Directors / Strategic Advisor

Dr. Kalniz has over 20 years of dental industry experience. He started his career with a single location practice and purchased a number of other dental practices and eventually sold his large dental group to a dental service organization. He joined the dental service organization as director of development sourcing a number of dental practice affiliations helping build the dental service organization to over 50 locations. Dr. Kalniz holds a DDS and a BS in Business Administration, Economics from The Ohio State University.
